Being aware of the local impact you have when you travel is so important. I have been to countries that don’t have the economics or the tools and resources to deal with increasing trash. When I was in the Azores, for the first time, probably because the islands are directly in the Gulf Stream, I saw the sand full of millions of tiny little pieces of plastic. The sand looked like it was covered in confetti.

We are all very cognizant of the issues around plastics in our environment and hopefully, you, like me, work to reduce plastics use. Traveling presents a challenge, not all countries have the ability to filter their public water, you may be hiking and need to obtain water on the trail, and in general, we all carry water when we travel. That’s lots of plastic! Many countries can’t handle this plastic bottle waste, but know you want clean water, so they offer bottled water everywhere.

Here is a way you can make a difference. Invest in a food filtering water bottle. I love my Grayl bottle. It is quick, simple and very safe to use. I can filter water from a faucet and from a stream. Here’s a video that shows how it works.

Consider investing in a good filtering water bottle. It’s a great way to contribute positively to the world and the magnificent places you visit.
